Recognised for its innovative approach last year, Chadwicks Group secured the Innovation in Health & Safety Award at the Health & Safety Excellence Awards 2025 for its Forklift Safety Observations App, a digital solution designed to improve safe forklift operation across its busy building materials supply operations.
The app was central to a behavioural change campaign aimed at embedding safer practices in day-to-day activities. By replacing paper-based forms with a smartphone platform, Chadwicks streamlined reporting, improved efficiency, and strengthened communication between managers and operators.
An added feature, the “Tour de Forks” initiative, introduced a gamified, competitive element that boosted engagement and encouraged staff to consistently apply essential safety skills. The result was a measurable reduction in forklift-related incidents and near misses, demonstrating the tangible impact of technology-driven innovation on workplace safety.
Judges commended the entrant’s creative and practical approach. “Chadwicks Group introduced an innovative method to manage a high-risk activity through its Forklift Safety Observations App. By combining digital efficiency with a fun, competitive programme, the team improved engagement, reinforced critical safety behaviours, and enhanced overall operational safety in the yard,” the judging panel said.
The recognition reflects rising standards across the Health & Safety Excellence Awards, where organisations are increasingly distinguished by their ability to combine leadership, innovation, and measurable impact. Chadwicks’ achievement illustrates how targeted digital solutions can transform high-risk processes and foster lasting safety improvements.
