Earlier this year, ESB Engineering and Major Projects was recognised with the Safety Culture Transformation Award – Large at the Health & Safety Excellence Awards 2025, celebrating its innovative programme designed to enhance safety mindset and culture across high-risk operations.
The initiative, successfully trialled with contractors on three major development projects, demonstrates ESB’s commitment to safeguarding employees and partners in an industry with significant hazards.
Judges commended ESB for embracing innovation and creativity to sustain and strengthen a strong safety culture. Their programme, built around four key people-focused principles, fosters accountability, engagement, and recognition among individuals, reinforcing a workplace where safety is a shared responsibility.
“ESB Engineering and Major Projects’ approach drives participation in safety-led activities, contributing to a meaningful cultural shift,” the panel noted.
This recognition reflects a broader trend across the sector toward psychological safety, data-driven well-being strategies, and stronger employee support systems, highlighting organisations that are driving meaningful change in workplace safety.
Building on ESB’s achievements, their success demonstrates how innovation, leadership, and a focus on people continue to shape Ireland’s safety culture—providing inspiration for the next wave of entrants preparing for the Health & Safety Excellence Awards 2026.
Amid this momentum, the question arises: which organisations will step forward next year to push innovation further and redefine standards in workplace safety?
Entries for the 2026 Awards will close on 16 January 2026. Visit the official website and subscribe to the newsletter for updates, insights, and exclusive event announcements.
