The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched a nationwide inspection campaign targeting occupational health and safety compliance across concerts, festivals, and major outdoor events scheduled throughout the summer period.
Midwest Radio reported that HSA inspectors will visit events around the country to assess compliance with health and safety standards, focusing on key risk areas including work at height, traffic management, electrical safety, contractor supervision, and the safe use of work equipment.
The campaign reflects the particular complexity of the events sector, where large numbers of contractors and outdoor workers are engaged in temporary, fast-paced environments under significant time pressure, often in poor weather conditions and in proximity to members of the public.
Deirdre Sinnott, senior inspector with the HSA, said: "Our focus is on working with event organisers and contractors to raise awareness of key hazards, help understand the required safety standards and ensure that appropriate controls are in place to prevent injury."
Sinnott added that where unsafe work activities are identified, inspectors will take action to ensure workers are protected.
The HSA noted that while event goers enjoy performances and exhibits, a significant volume of high-risk work takes place behind the scenes, increasing the need for robust planning, supervision, and risk management throughout the event lifecycle.
Sinnott said: "This campaign is focused on ensuring that work activities are properly planned and managed so that events can be delivered safely for everyone involved."
The campaign reinforces the HSA's broader commitment to raising occupational health and safety standards across sectors where temporary and contractor-led workforces present distinct compliance challenges.
