Ireland has launched landmark legislation to modernise marine safety and support its booming blue economy. The new rules establish a full-time Marine Accident Investigation Unit and introduce rigorous safety standards for offshore service vessels used in wind, aquaculture, and marine construction projects. The move signals Ireland’s determination to protect its growing offshore infrastructure – essential as it targets 37 GW of offshore wind by 2050. Beyond renewable energy, stronger maritime safety boosts investor confidence in aquaculture, marine biotech, and logistics. With €6.5 billion in ocean economy turnover and nearly 40,000 jobs, maritime security is more than compliance – it is economic resilience.
