Phoenix Equity Partners has invested in Medmark, Ireland’s largest occupational healthcare provider, backing the company’s next phase of expansion across occupational health, workplace wellbeing and related services.
The investment will support organic growth, strategic acquisitions and service development at the Irish business, according to Investors in Healthcare. The transaction is subject to standard regulatory approvals and is intended to support Medmark’s next phase of growth and innovation.
Founded in 1987, Medmark supports more than 500,000 employees through occupational health, health screening, workplace medical assessments and employee wellbeing services. The company operates from nine locations across Ireland and serves both public and private sector organisations.
The investment comes as employers place greater emphasis on managing workplace health, supporting employee wellbeing and identifying health-related risks. Medmark’s services include health surveillance and workplace assessments, giving organisations specialist support that can complement wider workforce health and safety strategies.
Phoenix’s backing is expected to support further investment in Medmark’s clinical and operational teams, technology and digital health platforms. The company also plans to enhance customer reporting and service delivery capabilities while broadening its geographic reach.
The investment will also provide capacity for complementary acquisitions and the development of additional services, creating scope for Medmark to broaden its offering as occupational health becomes a more established component of workplace risk management.
Medmark CEO Dr Robert Ryan said the investment would help the company respond to growing demand for occupational health, health screening and health surveillance services while continuing to develop its contribution to employers and employees.
The transaction follows a period of sustained expansion for the business and reinforces the commercial importance of occupational healthcare within Ireland’s wider workplace health market. Flynn O’Driscoll’s transaction coverage confirmed that the investment is intended to fund further expansion and support new services addressing evolving occupational health and workplace wellbeing requirements.
For Phoenix, the investment provides an opportunity to support a founder-led healthcare business operating in a market where employers are increasingly considering occupational health as part of broader workforce, safety and wellbeing strategies.
For Medmark, the additional capital and operational support create scope to invest in people, technology and service capabilities while pursuing further growth across Ireland. The company’s existing nine-location network also provides a platform for extending its geographic reach and occupational health provision.
For the sector, the lesson is clear: occupational health is becoming an increasingly important part of the wider workplace health and safety agenda. As employers place greater emphasis on prevention, health surveillance and employee wellbeing, investment in clinical capacity, digital tools and specialist services can strengthen the infrastructure supporting healthier and safer workplaces.
