Irish technology company Vectigo is bringing a new layer of road safety intelligence to the United States, with a roadway-embedded platform designed to identify hazards before they become serious incidents. Its Colorado launch combines solar-powered sensors, dynamic lane lighting and real-time data to help drivers, freight operators and emergency responders make safer decisions.

The platform was launched on 28 October through Vectigo’s US division, working with RoadSafe Traffic Systems as its national distribution and installation partner. As reported by Silicon Republic, the Dublin-headquartered business is targeting hazards including black ice, wrong-way vehicles, crashes and road closures. Its compact POD sensor units are installed flush with the road surface, collecting lane-level information and communicating warnings without requiring drivers to install an app or upgrade their vehicles. Traffic Technology Today also details how the system shares information with transport authorities, emergency services and autonomous-vehicle operators.

The Health & Safety potential is particularly significant in areas exposed to severe winter conditions. Sensors monitor road-surface temperatures to identify freezing conditions and potential black ice before they become visible to motorists. The system can also illuminate affected lanes in snow, rain and darkness, while detecting wrong-way vehicles and incidents that may require traffic to be redirected. For emergency responders, access to current information about road conditions and closures could help crews identify safer routes to incidents. Freight operators could also use the data to reroute vehicles and reduce exposure to hazardous conditions.

Founded in 2024, Vectigo develops roadway data infrastructure for conventional and autonomous mobility. Its platform combines Internet of Things sensors, artificial intelligence and a central data integration hub to turn road-level information into actionable alerts. The company’s technology overview describes a grid-independent system powered by solar energy, designed to operate without relying on conventional roadside electricity connections. Its partnership with RoadSafe, which has more than 60 locations across the US, provides an established route for installation and wider deployment.

Vectigo says its technology has demonstrated a 70% reduction in accidents and a 50% reduction in injury-causing incidents involving human-driven vehicles. These figures are company-reported and should be considered in the context of the trials behind them rather than as independently established results from the Colorado launch. The company is also positioning the platform as an additional source of road-condition information for autonomous vehicles, whose onboard cameras and sensors can be affected by snow, glare and poor road markings. Commercial Carrier Journal reports that Colorado is among its first priority markets in a planned US rollout.

For the sector, the lesson is direct: embedding safety intelligence into road infrastructure can give drivers, transport operators and emergency services earlier insight into changing hazards. Vectigo’s US expansion demonstrates how Irish technology businesses can turn engineering and data innovation into practical solutions for safer roads, more resilient freight operations and the next generation of connected mobility.
