Looking back on the Health & Safety Excellence Awards 2026, held last 30th April at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Cairn's Know Your Numbers campaign stands out as a practical answer to a familiar challenge in construction: reaching workers with health support where they already are. The campaign earned Cairn the Health & Safety Excellence Award for Construction (Large Organisation).
Know Your Numbers promotes workforce health by providing free, confidential on-site screenings, ensuring they are accessible to construction workers on Cairn's sites. Bringing screenings to the workplace reduces barriers of time and access, while confidentiality gives workers the assurance they need to take part.
The results are tangible. The screenings have uncovered previously undetected conditions, enabling early intervention and personalised health advice for the workers involved. In a sector where physical demands are part of daily life, catching issues early can change the course of a worker's health.
That impact is why Cairn intends to grow the initiative. Its proven results reinforce the company's ambition to expand the programme year on year, reaching more of its workforce.
The winning Health & Safety Excellence Award entry reflects a wider shift across the sector, where workforce health is increasingly treated as part of safety performance alongside physical hazards. Large construction organisations are well placed to lead, with the scale to reach large and varied workforces across multiple sites.
Stay tuned for the Health & Safety Excellence Awards 2027 cycle, where organisations from across Ireland will once again have the opportunity to showcase their commitment to workplace health and safety excellence.
