German-based manufacturing company Henkel hosted officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) and industry representatives at its Kurkumbh site in India, according to PrintWeek.
The engagement formed part of National Safety Week and focused on strengthening workplace safety practices across industrial operations.
The event aligned with the theme “Engage, Educate, Empower”, with discussions centred on improving awareness, training, and shared responsibility. Participants highlighted the role of collaboration in advancing occupational health and process safety standards across the Kurkumbh industrial cluster.
Regulators and industry stakeholders discussed the need for closer cooperation to improve compliance and safety outcomes. The exchange also encouraged companies to share best practices and adopt consistent safety approaches across operations.
Shri Sudhir Shinde, joint director at DISH, said: “Collaborative efforts like these help raise awareness, strengthen compliance, and reinforce the shared commitment to ensuring safer workplaces across the industrial ecosystem.”
Balaji Gopalaswamy, site director at Henkel Kurkumbh, said the initiative supports continuous engagement with teams and knowledge-sharing between companies. He added that such platforms allow industries to collectively strengthen safety culture across the region.
The engagement also addressed India’s new Labour Codes, including the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, which aims to streamline safety regulations and improve workplace protections.
India’s large workforce underscores the scale of the challenge, with over 500 million workers requiring consistent safety oversight across sectors. Regulatory initiatives such as National Safety Week, led by the National Safety Council of India, continue to promote awareness and safer workplace practices.
